FEATURES OF OUR CHIPPY SQUARE
Why the Chippy Square.
FEATURE · 01
Scribe every single millimetre.
Patent-pending scribe-hole system. Overlapping holes are shaped so each point lines up with a different millimetre - drop your pencil tip in and you’re scribing exactly where you mean to. The latest version adds an extra hole plus dedicated 3mm and 5mm precision holes for tighter offsets. Scribe a line, score a stud or set out a precise mark without grabbing a marking gauge.
FEATURE · 02
Markers for the whole layout.
35mm, 45mm, 70mm and 90mm plate-and-joist markers along the heel. 17.5mm and 22.5mm centre-of-stud markers so you can mark both sides of a 35mm or 45mm stud in one move. 17.5mm and 22.5mm centre-of-door-latch markers right there too. Layout work, all on one tool.
FEATURE · 03
25mm smaller. Fits more nail bags.
Same features as the 185mm Chippy Square, 25mm shorter. Sounds small - in the hand and in the pocket it’s a different tool. A 185mm rafter square fits nail bags with an allocated slot; chuck it in any other pocket and it works its way out. The 160mm sits comfortably in a much wider range of bags. The trade-off: no 13mm hex hole for circular-saw blade changes, and you can’t square a line longer than 160mm.

QUESTIONS
BEFORE YOU BUY.
Feature-for-feature, the 160mm has everything the 185mm has - same patent-pending scribe holes, same plate/joist markers, same stud-centre and door-latch markers. Two differences: the 185mm has a 13mm hex hole for changing circular-saw blades, and it can square a line up to 185mm long. In return, the 160mm fits a much wider range of nail bags. Most chippies pick the 160mm for daily carry and grab the 185mm when they need the hex or the longer line.
Yes. The markings are laser-engraved so they don’t wear off, and we’re yet to have a used Chippy Square returned for any reason - colour fade included. If you do manage to hammer one out of shape, get in touch - we want to know.
We sure do, globally.
In short: we back our gear. We’ve yet to have a used Chippy Square returned for any reason, but if you ever do have a problem with one, flick an email to luke@straightmate.com.au and we’ll sort it out.
